The small coastal town of Ahungalla is situation in the Galle district, in Sri Lanka’s Southern Province.

Primarily known for its wide palm belt and glorious sandy beaches, it is a popular tourist destination for sun worshippers looking to perfect their tan in a serene location. The most well known building in town is undoubtedly the luxury hotel Heritance Ahungalla, which overlooks the azure blue waters of the Indian Ocean. The hotel was designed by the famous Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. Devastated by the 2004 tsunami, Ahungalla has bounced back and is once again regarded as a popular holiday destination favoured by those who are seeking a relaxing beach holiday, as well as those who wish explore the wonders of Southern Sri Lanka. Nearby attractions include the Port city of Galle, the village of Kosgoda famous for is turtle hatchery and the mangroves of the Madu River.
