Unawatuna is a beautiful palm fringed cove on the Southern coast just a few kilometres from Galle. Quiet by day and vibrant by night, it remains a pleasant spot for an action packed beach holiday, although extensive commercial activity and increasing number of visitors to this once isolated and idyllic location have diminished its former beauty and rustic charm. The much developed beach has a good selection of cost effective places to stay, plenty of restaurants and cafes and many activities from surfing, diving to yoga and cookery classes for those not content to lounge on the beach all day. The protected double reef - Galapiteala reef and Napoleon Reef, over the bay makes an ideal natural pool for safe swimming and observing its rich marine life.
